Take a look at the stats and specs of NIKKOR’s incredible 14.2x superzoom

The NIKKOR Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR is the perfect lens for anyone who wants to travel light but still have all the options. With its 14.2x zoom range, it will take anything in its stride, from landscapes to wildlife – all in a small, light package. And with built-in Vibration Reduction, you can leave the tripod at home, too. Let’s take a look at the specs and discover what the NIKKOR Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR is capable of and why it should be in your bag.

Mount: Nikon Z mount

Nikon’s Z mount, designed for mirrorless cameras, is wider than the competition, and a wide mount means more light (and more detail) hitting your camera’s sensor.

Focal length: 28-400mm

Going all the way from wide angle to supertele, the NIKKOR Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR has a massive 14.2x zoom range. This means that with just one lens you can take almost any shot, from expansive landscapes and interiors to portraits and all the way to pictures of faraway wildlife. And on a Nikon Z DX camera (such as the Z 30, Z 50 and Z fc), the equivalent maximum focal length is a huge 600mm, perfect for wildlife enthusiasts who want even greater reach.

Lens construction: 21 elements in 15 groups

Complex optical engineering inside the NIKKOR Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR means fantastic sharpness at every focal length throughout its range.

Included in the box

Rear lens cap, front lens cap, lens bag and compact square lens hood. The hood can be attached inverted for easy storage and zoom capabilities are retained either way.

AF drive: stepping motor (STM)

Quiet and smooth operation of the STM means you can refocus on your subject without worrying about noise scaring it away.

Minimum focus distance: 0.2m (0.65ft) from focal plane (at 28mm), 1.2m (3.9ft) at 400mm

Great close-ups are a click away with the NIKKOR Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR. In fact, with the (very cool) square lens hood attached, take care you don’t accidentally touch your subject – you’ll be that close! And at 400mm you can get great background bokeh on close-ups.

Protection: dust- and drip-resistant sealings

Get out and about with confidence, knowing that your lens is safe and secure. Protection around the mount as well as all moving parts of the barrel limit the abilites of dust and moisture to seep in.

Controls

The knurled zoom ring is wide, so you can control the lens in a way that’s comfortable to you, while a control ring can be assigned various functions to make life easier. The control ring’s default setting is focus, but it can also be set to control aperture or exposure compensation.
