NOOR is a collective of professional photojournalists and documentary storytellers dedicated to raising awareness of contemporary global issues. Its photographers are drawn from countries around the world, all working on individual and collective projects.

Nikon is proud of its long-standing partnership with the NOOR collective of highly-accomplished photojournalists who document the complex issues facing our world today. As well as supporting NOOR's extensive photography projects like Food For Thought, an investigation into the food supply chain, Nikon also collaborates with NOOR on education, to inspire upcoming documentary photographers.

Nikon-NOOR Academy masterclasses are held regularly throughout Europe to offer aspiring photojournalists the chance to work closely with professionals to develop their skills. Participants have one-on-one portfolio reviews, learn technical skills in both shooting and post-production, and get pro advice on how to find a market for their stories.

We’re not just waiting for the next generation of visual storytellers to push through. We’re actively bringing tuition to them in their home countries. Since 2009 several of NOOR’s leading documentary photographers have become our Nikon-NOOR Academy tutors, travelling throughout our European territories to share their knowledge with up-and-coming photojournalists. We’ve trained over 1,000 participants from more than 70 countries at workshops from Kazakhstan to Istanbul, Sweden and Poland.

NOOR tutors bring more than just their photography skills to the Academy. They help participants learn to sequence their images, pitch their stories, and develop their own unique voice in photography. They share essential knowledge from the field too, giving guidance on working with fixers and safety tips, as many masterclass attendees will go on to work in zones of conflict.

And the support doesn’t stop there. Through the Nikon-NOOR Academy, participants now have an ever-growing network of other young photographers and photography professionals who will continue to help them as their careers develop.
