Will Cheung: Introduction to Studio Flash

LEVEL: Basic    TYPE: Seminar

If you're thinking about getting into studio flash, or have already got the gear and want to accelerate your learning curve, this one-day workshop led by photographer Will Cheung will give you a good grounding in all the basics, from choosing the right gear for your needs to specific lighting techniques. 10:00am - 16:30pm £169

With over 25 years' experience as a photographer and photo-magazine editor, Will Cheung has an instinctive understanding of what photographers need to maximise their imaging potential. His studio-flash course is carefully structured to take you through the whole process, step by step to great results.

You'll first be looking at gear choices, including brollies, softboxes, beauty dishes, snoots, background set-ups and flashmeters. You'll then be familiaries yourself with optimum camera set-up, including sync speed, choosing the best exposure mode and firing the flash.

To improve your knowledge of lighting techniques, the workshop also covers using high/low-key lighting, using one flash head, getting a white background, lighting for men and women, using reflectors, metering, lenses choice, colour filters and lighting ratios.

A model will be available throughout the day so lighting, posing and framing techniques can be demonstrated in real-time, as well as giving you the chance to try a few shots yourself.

This is the ideal course if you've always wanted to get into studio flash but were afraid to take the plunge.
Will Cheung's new one-day introduction to studio-flash is designed to boost the skills of first-time studio-flash users, and also to help photographers about to invest a flash set-up to choose the best kit for their needs. By the end of this course you'll have the confidence to take well-lit studio shots at home.
